E-mail solicitations should have an interesting subject and e-mail address.
The subject and e-mail address are the two items an e-mail recipient sees first. Given this fact, they should both work toward encouraging the recipient to actually open the e-mail.

Send an e-mail invitation first.
Your first solicitation e-mail should be a request for permission to send e-mail notices or information. Keep permission responses on file and monitor your list accordingly. Make sure if you are using a vendor for e-mail services, that their procedures include this step.

Provide a way to “opt out”
On every solicitation or informational e-mail be sure to provide an “opt out.” An opt out phrase and link (such as “To unsubscribe to this e-mail service, click here”) should be stated in each e-mail message. Again, make sure if you are using a vendor for e-mail services, that their procedures include this step.
